1. The coat is not optional
Fashion dies at twenty below. Cover skin. Keep a layer in the building you actually live in, not in the car you might not get into.
2. Batteries fail in public lots
Ask for a jump in a lit lot. Meet at an entrance first if you want. Campus public safety jumps cars on some campuses — MSUM publishes that service; search NDSU and Concordia for theirs.
3. Park facing out when you can
A small mercy on a morning when the lot is ice. Not a guarantee. Not a helper’s job to dig you out of a private stall.
4. Indoor public defaults
Unions, libraries, mall vestibules. Name them in the request. Exact location stays optional.
5. MATBUS when the car is done
matbus.com. Monday–Saturday fixed routes as they publish them. Not a Sunday assumption. Not a stranger’s sedan.
6. Official escorts exist

7. Heat and shelter are 211
If the apartment has no heat, that is a landlord, a utility, and 211. If someone is outside in a blizzard, 911 or a shelter — winter-shelter page, not the map.
8. Mental weather is a crisis line
