Before your first trip
Look up the actual route instead of assuming a straight line, because transit routes wander for good reasons. Confirm the last departure of the evening before you plan a return trip. Know your fare situation in advance, including any campus arrangement your student ID may cover.

Dress for standing still, not for walking. A ten-minute wait at fifteen below in a wind is a different activity than a ten-minute walk. Arrive early, stand somewhere sheltered if the stop offers it, and have a backup plan for the last trip of the night.
