How location works — and how it does not

The map is supposed to be useful without being a tracker. That is a design choice, not a slogan.

What other people see while a request is open

Live help shows as an approximate area of about 500 meters. That is a rounded area, not a dot on your person, not a house number, not a stall in a ramp. Helpers who receive a private offer see that coarse area plus whatever you typed.

Exact location is a later, smaller door

Precise location moves only after a helper is accepted and you say yes, and only to that person. You can refuse. You can stop sharing. Completion ends exact sharing automatically.

  • You can still complete a request by naming a public place and walking there.
  • On supported iPhones, precision finding is available only when both people opt in.
  • No-location requests can still be considered by suitable approved helpers.
  • When both people have shared matching location, offers stay within about 10 km of the requester’s rounded area.

What we do not do

We do not publish your request on a public map pin. We do not give every helper in town a live trail. We do not need your home address to jump a battery at West Acres.

If you want the legal language

The Privacy Policy is the contract-shaped version of this. This guide is the human one. Delete your account from Account in the app if you want your data gone; type DELETE. Questions: support@helpme.fyi.

Questions people actually ask

Can I turn off exact sharing after I said yes?

Yes. Stop sharing. Meet in public anyway. Completion also ends exact sharing.

Does the coarse area show my apartment building?

It is about 500 meters, not a building outline. Still prefer a public meeting label over anything that reads like a home.

Help Me is a community app for adults in Fargo–Moorhead. It is not a K–12 student program, not a youth chat, and not campus police.
