Staff review
A person makes the call. That is slower than a checkbox, and it is the point.
A human decision
The helper application lives inside the app. There is no shortcut from this website. Someone on staff looks at the identity evidence and the rest of the application — categories, availability, motivation, experience — and decides. We do not pretend a model can replace that look.
States that mean something
Pending means wait. Approved means current access to see and accept requests. Rejected and expired mean you cannot help until a new, current decision says otherwise. Resubmission is a real path. Historical labels never grant access. An old screenshot of a badge is not a badge.
What staff review does not claim
It does not claim a criminal background check. It does not claim a professional license. It does not claim the helper is an employee. If a later report lands, staff can act. Meet in public anyway.
Questions people actually ask
How long does review take?
A person does it, so it is not instant. Apply from the app and wait on a real decision. We do not publish a fake SLA.
Can I skip review with a .edu email?
No. A campus address is not a helper badge and does not skip staff review.
Who reviews reports?
Staff can act on reports. Report from the request. That is separate from the original approval look.

Help Me is a community app for adults in Fargo–Moorhead. It is not a K–12 student program, not a youth chat, and not campus police.
