who it’s for
For people whose lease ends in May
Apartment life in this metro runs on a calendar: everyone moves at once, and everyone needs the same elevator.
Short answer
Help Me gives renters in Fargo–Moorhead a way to ask approved neighbors for small tasks — a hand with furniture, a jump start in the lot, a scrape and shovel after a storm. It is not a repair service and not legal help: maintenance belongs to your landlord, and disputes belong to tenant resources and legal aid.
The facts, in one place
- Lifting and one-visit help, not repairs.
- Maintenance requests go to the landlord, in writing.
- Tenant rights differ between North Dakota and Minnesota.
- Legal aid organizations handle disputes; neighbors cannot.
The rhythm of renting here
Leases cluster around the same dates, so move-in and move-out are metro-wide events rather than personal ones. Complexes near campus turn over almost entirely. Parking rules change with snowfall. And every building has one door that is actually the loading door.
Two states, two sets of rules
Fargo and West Fargo are North Dakota. Moorhead and Dilworth are Minnesota. Notice periods, deposit rules, and tenant protections are not the same across the river, and advice from a friend on the other side may be confidently wrong. Legal aid and tenant-resource organizations in each state are the ones to ask.
Questions people actually ask
Can a helper fix my sink?
No. Maintenance is your landlord’s job and plumbing is a licensed trade.
Can someone help me move out?
A hand with a few heavy items, yes. A full move is movers and friends.

season
May, and everything is on the curb
May turns the metro into a curb full of furniture. What move-out looks like near campus, where a spare set of hands helps, and where donations go.
season
Late August, and everyone is carrying something
Late August turns the metro into a moving truck. What move-in week looks like at NDSU, MSUM, Concordia, and M State, and where a spare set of hands helps.
hands
Heavy lifting, the neighbor with gloves
A sofa that will not turn the stair, a dresser, a campus mini-fridge in Fargo. Ask a neighbor. Not movers, and not a paid crew.
campus
Move-in weekend, extra hands
NDSU, MSUM, or Concordia move-in weekend — boxes, a mini-fridge, a third-floor carry. Neighbors with hands, not a moving company.
